Finders are not really keepers

“Finders keepers, losers weepers” may sound catchy, but only assholes think it’s OK to just keep anything they find lying around.  That’s called “stealing.”  Decent people who find items of value turn them in to lost and found or make efforts to find the owner.

I mean, OK, you find a dollar on the sidewalk, there's no reason to tax yourself finding out who dropped it.  But when you find something expensive, or when you're in a business that has a lost and found, go ahead and take a couple of seconds to do the right thing and turn it in.  Don't say, "Yippee!  I found this wallet with $500 in it, so I'll just take the cash and throw it away, although I can clearly see that it belongs to John Doe if 1234 Main Street."  If nothing else, toss it in a mailbox.  The post office will get it back to the owner.
